Odisha Vigilance officials arrested a senior assistant of Khandapara Sub-Treasury in Nayagarh district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a pensioner.
The accused, identified as Saroj Kumar Sahoo, allegedly demanded the money to facilitate the credit of pensionary benefits.
Authorities said Sahoo threatened to block the passing of bills unless the pensioner paid him. Distressed by the harassment, the pensioner approached Vigilance officials and narrated the incident. Acting on the complaint, a team of Odisha Vigilance laid a trap and caught Sahoo red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Officials recovered the entire bribe amount from Sahoo’s possession and seized it as evidence. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches began at two locations linked to the accused to investigate disproportionate assets.
Odisha Vigilance registered Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 05 dated 29.03.2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigators confirmed that further inquiry is in progress and a detailed report will follow.
