The sacred festival of Ram Navami is being celebrated with great devotion across India, with special significance in Ayodhya—the birthplace of Lord Ram. This year, the grand celebrations in Ayodhya are taking place on March 27, 2026, marked by the much-anticipated Surya Tilak ceremony at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.

Devotees from across the country have gathered to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, revered as a symbol of righteousness, virtue, and justice.

Ram Navami 2026: Date and Auspicious Timings

According to the Hindu calendar, the Navami Tithi began on March 26 at 11:48 AM and concluded on March 27 at 10:06 AM. The Madhyahna Muhurat—considered the most auspicious time to celebrate Lord Ram’s birth—was observed between 11:13 AM and 1:41 PM, with the exact moment at 12:27 PM.

Surya Tilak Ceremony at Ram Janmabhoomi

A major highlight of the celebrations is the Surya Tilak ritual, held at precisely 12:00 PM. During this unique ceremony, a beam of sunlight is scientifically directed onto the forehead of the Ram Lalla idol inside the temple.

Using an advanced system of mirrors and lenses, sunlight enters the sanctum and forms a radiant tilak on the deity’s forehead for a few minutes. The ceremony symbolizes divine blessings and showcases a blend of tradition and modern science.

To ensure wider participation, the temple authorities arranged live screenings across Ayodhya, allowing thousands of devotees to witness the moment.

Religious Significance of Ram Navami

Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, often referred to as Maryada Purushottam for his adherence to dharma and moral values.

The festival falls on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, and visit temples to seek blessings on this auspicious occasion.

Celebrations and Rituals in Ayodhya

In Ayodhya, celebrations begin early in the morning with devotees taking a holy dip in the Saryu River before heading to the temple for darshan and prayers.

Special aartis and rituals are performed throughout the day, including:

  • Mangal Aarti: 4:30 AM
  • Shringar Aarti: 6:30 AM
  • Midday Aarti (with Surya Tilak): 12:00 PM
  • Shayan Aarti: 9:30 PM

Free darshan for devotees is available in multiple time slots from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM to accommodate large crowds.

Arrangements for Devotees

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust has made extensive arrangements to manage the large influx of visitors. Screens have been installed across the city to broadcast rituals, ensuring that devotees who cannot enter the temple can still participate in the celebrations.

Authorities have also ensured smooth crowd management, security, and continuous access to darshan throughout the day.
