Centre Allocates Rs 7712.85 Cr to Bolster Women’s Safety Under Nirbhaya Fund

The government has allocated a substantial Rs 7712.85 crore under the Nirbhaya Fund to enhance women’s safety and security.


Of this, nearly 76% (Rs 5846.08 crore) has been utilized to date.

Women Help Desks: More than 14,658 Women Help Desks have been established nationwide, with 13,743 led by women police officers, fostering a safer environment for women seeking assistance.

Cyber Forensic Training: Cyber Forensic cum Training Labs have been set up in 33 states and union territories, training 24,264 individuals to handle cyber-related crimes effectively.

One Stop Centres (OSCs): A total of 802 OSCs are operational across 36 states and UTs, providing support to over 10.80 lakh women affected by violence.

Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112): The ERSS-112 has been implemented in all 36 states/UTs, handling over 43 crore calls. Integrated with the Women Helpline (WHL-181), the system has assisted more than 84.43 lakh women.

Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs): Currently, 745 FTSCs, including 404 e-POCSO courts, are functional in 30 states/UTs, resolving over 3,06,000 cases of heinous sexual offences.

Central Victim Compensation Fund (CVCF): Rs 200 crore has been disbursed to states/UTs to provide compensation to victims of crimes, especially sexual offences.

Safe City Projects: To ensure the safety of public spaces, Safe City Projects have been implemented in eight major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

Safe Transportation: Various initiatives, such as the Integrated Emergency Response Management System (IERMS) and AI-based Facial Recognition Systems, are being implemented to secure women’s transportation.

The government’s ongoing efforts to enhance women’s safety through these initiatives continue to make a significant impact across the country.
