A youth attempted suicide by jumping in front of a freight train at Balugaon railway station in Khurda district and later died while undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday when a freight train entered Balugaon station. Witnesses saw the unidentified youth suddenly jump in front of the moving train. The impact left him critically injured.
Railway police and local people immediately rescued him and rushed him to Balugaon Medical. Doctors there referred him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition worsened. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Khurda Road GRP registered an unnatural death case under case number 10 dated 01/03/26. Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Investigators are working to establish the youth’s identity.
Reports suggest the deceased was approximately 30 years old. He wore a sky-blue printed T-shirt and blue full-length pants at the time of the incident. Authorities are appealing for information to help identify him.
