Six armed robbers looted Rs 70 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from a house in Kochaniamba village under Chikalpadar panchayat, Umerkote police limits.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when homeowner Amulya Jena was alone.
Reports said Jena had recently sold land and kept ₹70 lakh at home. Around midnight, the robbers broke into his house, assaulted him, and threatened him with sharp weapons. They tied his hands and legs before ransacking the almirah. The gang escaped with the cash and gold ornaments, including 14 gold rings, three lockets, and earrings.
After struggling free, Jena informed his family members, who immediately alerted Umerkote police. Officers reached the spot this morning and began an investigation. Police confirmed that a scientific team from Nabarangpur and a sniffer dog squad will assist in the probe.
Authorities launched a manhunt to track down the robbers and assured swift action to bring them to justice.
