The Special Crime Unit of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police seized 370 grams of brown sugar and arrested three accused during a late-night operation in Bhubaneswar.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the unit launched surveillance targeting the illegal narcotics trade. Officers intercepted suspects near Shyama Shyam Dham Road, close to Doordarshan Kendra under Saheed Nagar police limits, at 10 PM on February 20. The suspects attempted to conduct a drug transaction when police moved in.
Police arrested Sameer Khan alias Muna alias Mohan (44), Sk. Irsad Mohammad alias Surya (23), and Munaf Khan alias Mona (22), all residents of Jaleswar in Balasore district. Investigators seized 370 grams of brown sugar, two two-wheelers, four mobile phones, and ₹1650 in cash.
Officials confirmed that the accused are being interrogated to uncover their wider network and supply chain. The arrests mark a significant success in the fight against narcotics in the Bhubaneswar region.
Commissionerate Police emphasised their commitment to dismantling criminal syndicates and eliminating the brown sugar trade. Authorities said the arrested individuals will be produced before the court as the investigation continues.
Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to narcotics. The Special Crime Unit assured that informants’ identities will remain confidential.
