Tension prevailed at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Odisha on Friday after a violent altercation broke out between two groups of students on campus. Several students sustained injuries during the incident.
According to preliminary reports, the clash involved students from the East Hostel and the New Hostel. The confrontation prompted immediate deployment of police personnel inside and around the university premises to restore order.
Dispute Allegedly Began During Sports Event
Sources indicated that tensions began earlier in the day during a campus sports event. A heated argument reportedly erupted between members of the two hostel groups.
Although the situation appeared to settle temporarily, tensions resurfaced later in the evening. The disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation.
During the clash, some students were allegedly seen using bamboo sticks and other objects, resulting in injuries on both sides.
Police Intervention and Ongoing Investigation
Following the incident, police were swiftly deployed, particularly near the East Hostel and New Hostel areas, to prevent further escalation.
Senior police officials, including the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), reached the campus and initiated an inquiry. Authorities are currently investigating the sequence of events and the factors that led to the altercation.
