Odisha Vigilance apprehended a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Bhatimunda GP under Tangi-Choudwar Block, Cuttack district, while he was taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a mechanic.
On February 20, 2026, officials caught Bharata Bhusan Mishra red-handed after he demanded money in exchange for releasing arrear salary and extending the service of the complainant. The mechanic reported the matter to Vigilance authorities when Mishra insisted on the bribe. Acting swiftly, a Vigilance team laid a trap and nabbed him while accepting the cash.
Investigators recovered the entire bribe amount from Mishra’s possession and seized it as evidence. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches began at three locations linked to the accused to examine disproportionate assets.
Cuttack Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 8 dated February 19, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Officials confirmed that an investigation is in progress against Mishra.
Authorities stressed that the operation reflects Vigilance’s commitment to curbing corruption at the grassroots level. They added that strict enforcement of anti-corruption laws is essential to protect public funds and ensure accountability in local governance.
