Following a conditional bail granted by the Supreme Court, former Chhattisgarh minister Kawasi Lakhma has chosen Malkangiri district in Odisha as his temporary residence. Restrictions imposed by the court prevent him from entering Chhattisgarh, prompting him to relocate to the neighbouring district.

Upon his arrival in Malkangiri, Lakhma was accorded a grand welcome by local Congress workers. Expressing his commitment to abide by the judicial directives, he stated that he would respect the court’s orders and focus on understanding the issues faced by the local populace. “I will honour the law and the Supreme Court’s instructions by staying in Malkangiri instead of Chhattisgarh,” Lakhma said.

Given Malkangiri’s proximity to Chhattisgarh, the move is seen as convenient for Lakhma. He further revealed plans to collaborate with the Malkangiri district Congress unit to carry out party activities. This decision comes amid his ongoing legal battles, where he was arrested in connection with a liquor scam and subsequently granted conditional bail on February 4.

Lakhma’s presence in Malkangiri is expected to boost local Congress morale, especially in a region bordering Chhattisgarh. As the case progresses, all eyes will be on how this temporary shift impacts his political engagements and the broader implications for cross-state party dynamics.
