Bangladesh withdrew from the T20 World Cup 2026 after citing unresolved security concerns, and the ICC confirmed Scotland as their replacement.
The ICC convened a meeting in Dubai led by Chairman Jay Shah to finalise Bangladesh’s participation. Bangladesh had earlier requested that the matter be referred to the dispute resolution committee, but the committee clarified it could not act as an appeal forum. Following this, Bangladesh announced its decision to boycott the tournament.
Scotland, ranked higher among European teams, secured the vacant spot despite finishing behind Italy, the Netherlands, and Jersey in the qualifiers. The ICC emphasised Scotland’s consistent performances in past editions as a factor in their selection.
Scotland now joins Group C alongside England, West Indies, Italy, and Nepal. Their campaign begins on February 7 against the West Indies in Kolkata. They face Italy on February 9 and England on February 14, both at Eden Gardens. Their final group clash comes against Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai.
Scotland has featured in five T20 World Cups, including the last two editions in 2022 and 2024. Although they failed to reach the Super 8 stages, they impressed with competitive performances against stronger teams like Australia and England. This opportunity offers Scotland another chance to showcase its growing stature in international cricket.
