ICC Upholds Current Match Schedule for Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

Bangladesh’s request to shift matches to Sri Lanka rejected after independent security reviews found no credible threat.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will proceed as scheduled, with Bangladesh’s matches to be played in India.

The decision was taken during an ICC Board meeting on January 21, following the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to relocate fixtures to Sri Lanka.

After reviewing multiple independent security assessments, the ICC concluded there was no credible threat to players, officials, media, or fans at any of the tournament venues. The governing body emphasised that altering the schedule so close to the event, without valid security grounds, would set a precedent that could undermine the neutrality and integrity of future ICC tournaments.

An ICC spokesperson stated that the organisation had engaged in “sustained and constructive dialogue” with the BCB, sharing detailed venue-level security plans and assurances from host authorities. Despite these efforts, the BCB maintained its stance, linking participation to an unrelated domestic league issue.

The ICC reiterated that its scheduling decisions are guided by objective threat assessments and host guarantees, applying equally to all 20 competing nations. Relocating fixtures, it warned, would cause significant logistical disruptions and precedent-related challenges.

The ICC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to fairness, neutrality, and safeguarding the collective interests of the global game.
