The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) announced a massive Rs 600 crore plan to revamp Nicco Park, giving the once-popular attraction a new lease of life.
The Housing and Urban Development Department confirmed that the project will unfold in three phases. Moreover, officials revealed that the plan will introduce modern facilities such as illumination, food courts, market complexes, and boating.
Nicco Park, originally developed in 1998 across 10 acres, served as a hub of entertainment with water slides, wave pools, spiral rides, and boating. However, poor maintenance under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) caused its decline. As a result, the park became overgrown, abandoned, and eventually turned into a shelter for animals.
Nevertheless, the park retained nostalgic charm. Tourists from Odisha and beyond continued to visit. Yet, they often left disappointed because most rides and equipment stopped functioning. Tickets were still sold, but visitors found little to enjoy.
Now, BDA aims to restore Nicco Park’s glory. In addition, officials emphasised that the beautification project will revive old attractions while adding new features to appeal to families and tourists. Children’s entertainment zones, vibrant food courts, and boating facilities will create a fresh experience.
Local residents welcomed the announcement. Furthermore, they noted that the park had long lost its appeal due to neglect. The minister and BMC mayor assured that by the new year, Nicco Park will emerge in a modern avatar, ready to captivate Bhubaneswar’s citizens and visitors once again.
