The Odisha Vigilance Department on Saturday arrested Bijay Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI Police Station, Cuttack, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.
According to an official vigilance release, the trap operation was conducted on January 4, 2026, at Rajmahal Chhak in Bhubaneswar. Barik was apprehended while allegedly receiving the bribe in exchange for allowing the complainant to operate his licensed liquor business without interference.
Vigilance officials stated that the entire tainted bribe amount was recovered from Barik’s possession and subsequently seized as evidence.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations linked to the accused, focusing on possible disproportionate assets (DA). The searches were ongoing at the time of reporting.
In connection with the case, Cell Division Police Station Case No. 1/2026 has been registered against Barik under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The Odisha Vigilance Department on Saturday recovered approximately ₹5 lakh in cash during a house search at the government residence of Bijay Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI Police Station, Cuttack, who was earlier arrested in a bribery case.
According to vigilance officials, the cash was found during a search conducted at Barik’s government quarters located at Unit-1, Bhubaneswar. The search operation is continuing as part of the ongoing investigation.
