The Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, has issued a traffic advisory in preparation for the much-anticipated “Patha Utsav,” the popular street festival organised by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The event, marking the first of the 2025-2026 season, is scheduled for January 4, 2026, on the iconic Janpath stretch from Master Canteen Square to Ram Mandir Square.
According to the official advisory signed by Commissioner of Police Dr. Suresh Dev Datta Singh, IPS, no vehicular movement will be permitted on the specified road stretch or any connecting lanes from 11:00 PM on January 3, 2026, until 11:00 AM on January 4, 2026. The restriction aims to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the festival, which is expected to draw thousands of residents and dignitaries.
Patha Utsav, a vibrant community event promoting culture, fitness, and public engagement, transforms the busy roadway into a pedestrian paradise featuring music and dance performances, Zumba sessions, yoga, arts and crafts stalls, kids’ zones, and a special “Bhubaneswar Got Talent” showcase. This year’s opener promises added attractions, building on the festival’s tradition of reclaiming streets for people.
The police have urged commuters and residents to:
- Avoid the mentioned route if possible.
- Plan travel in advance to prevent delays.
- Stay updated via official traffic advisories and local news.
- Cooperate with traffic personnel and follow temporary diversions.
“We request the cooperation and support of the public to ensure the success of the event and maintain smooth traffic flow in the city,” the advisory stated.
Patha Utsav has become a beloved winter tradition in Bhubaneswar, fostering community spirit and healthy lifestyles. Following the January 4 event on Janpath, subsequent editions are planned for other locations in the city.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and exercise caution in the area during the restriction period.
