Cuttack: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP from Cuttack, Bhartruhari Mahtab on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Minister of Communications, Ashwini Vaishnaw demanding urgent steps to restore Cuttack Philately Bureau immediately.
In his letter, Mahatab also urged the newly-appointed IT&C Minister, Vaishnaw to take urgent steps to correct the mistake as Cuttack Philately Bureau is closed in the name of rationalisation.
“Cuttack Philately Bureau has the largest collectors in comparison to other Bureau of the State. But recently, that is 12th July, Cuttack Philately Bureau is closed in the
name of rationalisation and it has been merged with Bhubaneswar Bureau,” the letter read.
“It is mentioned in the office order dated 8th July 2021 that 31 Philately Bureaus have been discontinued effect from 12.07.2021. This decision needs to be rescinded immediately as there is no application of mind. You may find from the list attached herewith that there are two GPOs that were of heritage status which have been shut down, one is of Cuttack and the other is of Nagpur. The rest are H.0. or S.O,” Mahatab said in his letter.
“I may draw your attention to the fact that the Cuttack Philately Bureau was going to celebrate its 75th year (Amrut Utsav) next year but now it is merged with Bhubaneswar which has not completed even 20 years. If rationalization is the cause of discontinuing the Bureaus throughout the country, even shutting down one at Port Blair, then Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur Bureau could be merged with Cuttack,” the letter read.
