The family dispute between popular Odia comedian Mr Gulua a.k.a Ashish Kumar Das and his wife Barsha has captured widespread attention across Odisha.
Gulua, known for his hilarious skits and massive online following, today took to social media to post a video alleging threats to his life and extortion demands ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. In response, Barsha has stepped forward in front of the media, levelling serious counter-allegations against her husband and turning the spotlight on their troubled marriage.
Gulua filed a formal complaint at the Balianta police station, claiming that an unidentified individual was blackmailing him and threatening to tarnish his reputation if the money wasn’t paid. However, in his video, he further accused the police of colluding with the alleged blackmailer. Citing imminent danger to his life, Gulua revealed that he had fled Bhubaneswar and gone into hiding elsewhere out of fear.
On the other hand, Barsha broke her silence in a media interaction, disclosing that she has endured domestic violence for over a year. She accused Gulua and his family of subjecting her to physical and mental abuse, including beatings and being forcibly evicted from their home. Barsha went on to question Gulua’s character, alleging that he maintains illicit relationships with multiple women across various locations in Odisha.
According to Barsha, Gulua spends significant time with other women and has refused to acknowledge her as his rightful wife. She claims to possess evidence of his extramarital affairs. Furthermore, Barsha alleged that the entire controversy erupted after she demanded the return of money she had lent to Gulua, prompting him to orchestrate this “drama” as a diversion.
The feud has exploded on social media, going viral and sparking intense debates among fans and netizens. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. With over 1.4 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, there are growing concerns that this scandal could severely impact Gulua’s burgeoning career as a comedian and content creator.
