The State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department organised the National Consumer Protection Day 2025 at Jayadev Bhavan.

As Chief Guest, Minister Krushna Chandra Patra emphasised that consumer awareness remains the central objective of the observance. Moreover, he stressed that every consumer has the right to receive quality goods and services. He further explained that the department has already taken steps to curb food adulteration, including regular raids and strict action against unscrupulous traders. In addition, he urged citizens to remain vigilant and approach consumer courts whenever necessary to safeguard their rights.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, speaking as the Guest of Honour, highlighted that senior officials regularly visit districts to check food quality at the grassroots level. He also advised consumers to look for government-issued quality certifications such as BIS Hallmark for gold and ISI certification for consumer goods, along with details like price, manufacturing date, and expiry date on packaged items.

Furthermore, Akshay Kumar Purohit, Senior Director of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), delivered the keynote address. He explained various government initiatives to protect consumers and emphasised the importance of certifications to prevent fraud. He also urged buyers to verify these marks before purchasing goods.

Additionally, Director of Consumer Affairs and Independent Secretary Bisikesan Dehuri welcomed the guests and underlined the significance of the day in spreading awareness nationwide. On the occasion, Minister Patra felicitated students who excelled in college-level competitions and unveiled the monthly magazine “Consumer Barta.” A short play titled “E-Nyay: Samayara Swara” was also staged. Finally, Secretary Manoj Kumar Pattnayak concluded the programme with a vote of thanks.
