A coal-laden truck caught fire after meeting with an accident on the Rampela bridge under Banharpali police limits in Jharsuguda district on Saturday afternoon.

The truck lost balance and rammed into the side wall of the bridge. As a result, the engine caught fire, which gradually spread and engulfed the entire vehicle. The truck was reportedly transporting coal to JSW Company in Sahajbahal when the mishap occurred.

The driver managed to escape with minor injuries. Locals alerted authorities, and soon, Banharpali police, along with the fire services department, reached the spot. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after a strenuous effort.

The incident disrupted traffic in the area for some time, but normalcy was restored once the fire was doused. Police have initiated an inquiry into the accident.
