The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal on Tuesday released the list of voters deleted from the state’s draft electoral roll for 2026, following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

According to official sources, 5,820,898 pre-existing voters—over 58 lakh names—have been removed from the draft list due to reasons including death, permanent relocation, duplication, missing voters, and other discrepancies.

Reasons for Deletion Explained

Data released by the West Bengal CEO provides a detailed breakdown of the deletions:

  • Marked as deceased: 2,416,852 voters

  • Permanently relocated: 1,988,076 voters

  • Reported missing or untraceable: 1,220,038 voters

  • Duplicate entries: 138,328 voters

  • Other reasons: 57,604 voters

Total deletions: 5,820,898 voters

Election officials clarified that the revision exercise was carried out to improve accuracy and integrity of the electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections.

Claims and Objections Process Open

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has stated that individuals who believe their names were wrongly deleted can submit claims using Form 6, along with a declaration form and supporting documents.

“Aggrieved persons may submit their claims after the publication of Draft Roll 2026 during the designated claims and objections period,” the Election Commission said on the portal.

The claims and objections window will remain open until January 15, 2026, after which the final electoral rolls will be published.

Revision Ahead of Assembly Elections

The updated draft voter list comes as West Bengal prepares for its assembly elections scheduled for early next year. Officials confirmed that the enumeration phase of the SIR concluded last week, following statewide verification efforts.

Voters are advised to check their status online and complete the necessary procedures within the stipulated timeline to ensure their inclusion in the final electoral roll.
