Police rescued 17 migrant workers, including four children, and arrested two middlemen in Bolangir district during a patrol near Mahulbahali village under the Turekela police station limits.
According to officials, the rescued labourers belonged to Mahulbahali village under Turekela police station and Nagaon under Komna police station. Police discovered that the workers were being trafficked illegally after verifying their documents.
Acting swiftly, police registered Case No. 341/25 and arrested two sardars—Pitabas Tandi and Ghana Tandi of Mahulbahali village. They were later produced in court.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that thousands of migrant labourers usually migrate to other states during the season after receiving advance payments. The latest rescue highlights the administration’s efforts to curb illegal trafficking and protect vulnerable workers.
Station Officer Rakesh Behera stated that strict action will continue against those involved in exploiting labourers through unlawful practices.
