A violent clash during a local festival in Kumaariput village under Semiliguda block of Koraput district left a youth critically injured after a knife attack.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night during a Podhamara Jatra when tensions between two groups escalated.
On Wednesday morning, the situation turned serious as a minor allegedly attacked Balaram Kadria of Kumaariput village with a knife, stabbing him multiple times. Family members rushed him to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, where doctors confirmed his condition as critical.
According to reports, the dispute began when a group of girls from the Nandapur area, accompanied by a minor, visited the festival. An argument broke out between them and Balaram, which later escalated. Both sides returned to their villages, but the confrontation resumed the next day when the minor’s family came to discuss the matter.
Following the attack, Balaram’s family lodged a written complaint at the Semiliguda police station. Inspector Anita Kujur and her team registered Case No. 161/25 and detained two individuals for interrogation. Sub-Inspector Prafulla Kumar Patra is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
