Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the death of a college student who succumbed to severe burn injuries in Lanjiberna, Rajgangpur. Calling the incident “heart-wrenching,” he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
In his statement, Patnaik noted that the victim’s family had reportedly mentioned earlier threats to her life. He said that the lack of timely action despite these warnings had raised widespread concern and disbelief among the public.
Patnaik questioned how many more innocent lives would be lost before stronger preventive measures are put in place. He remarked that rising incidents of violence in Odisha, and what he described as administrative indifference, were emboldening offenders.
Highlighting growing public anxiety, he said many people no longer feel secure while alleged perpetrators continue to move freely. Patnaik urged the government to clarify whom it is protecting if citizens remain vulnerable.
Emphasizing the need for immediate corrective steps, the former Chief Minister called upon authorities to strengthen the law-and-order system across the state. He stressed that justice must be ensured for the victim and that firm, swift action should be taken against the accused to prevent such tragedies in the future.
