Authorities in Nilgiri, Balasore, launched an investigation after shocking allegations claimed that a fourth standard student was shackled inside the hostel of Begunia Unit UG UP School.

The inquiry began when MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alerted the District Collector. Consequently, the Collector directed Sub-Collector Madhusmita Samantaray to lead a team of officials.

The team included the District Education Officer, Block Development Officer, and other officers. They reached the school at 10 a.m. and examined the situation thoroughly. Moreover, they discovered conflicting accounts between the complaint and the school’s version. The mother insisted her son had not returned home since Durga Puja. In contrast, the headmaster stated the boy had not attended school for a month. Additionally, a teacher claimed the father shackled the boy at home because of his behaviour.

Assistant teachers reported that the boy had been seen with a shackle on his leg for several days. Furthermore, the Sub-Collector confirmed that officials completed a detailed investigation and submitted the report to District Collector Suryabanshi Mayur Vikas. The Collector will decide the next course of action.

The incident created tension in the school. Students and staff expressed concern about the treatment of the child. As a result, the case highlighted serious questions about child safety and welfare in hostels. Authorities assured that they will act based on the findings.

The Nilgiri shackled student case has drawn public attention. Families demanded accountability and stronger monitoring of hostels. Ultimately, the investigation will determine responsibility and ensure corrective measures.
