The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) will determine the electricity tariff for the Financial Year 2026-27, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo informed the State Assembly on Wednesday.
Addressing a question by MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak regarding measures to safeguard domestic, agricultural, and small consumers amid repeated tariff hike proposals by distribution companies, the Deputy CM stated that the OERC is currently conducting a prudence check of the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) proposals submitted by power utilities.
Singh Deo assured that the tariff determination process will include public consultation, ensuring transparency and consideration of consumer interests. He also highlighted that domestic, agricultural, and small consumers are cross-subsidised, which helps maintain their electricity rates at lower levels.
The Deputy CM emphasized that the process adheres to Sections 61 to 65 of the Electricity Act, 2003, ensuring compliance with statutory provisions while balancing the interests of utilities and consumers.
