BJP MP and actor-politician Kangana Ranaut criticized opposition parties on Monday for disrupting proceedings in Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session, following demands for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Ranaut described the opposition’s actions as a “point of desperation” arising from consecutive electoral setbacks. She added that important legislative business could not proceed due to repeated interruptions.

“The more they lose, the more frustrated they become. The Congress and other opposition parties have reached a point of desperation,” Ranaut said.

The remarks come after the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned multiple times amid protests demanding discussion on electoral roll revisions. Parliament’s Winter Session, which began on December 1, will continue until December 19.

Government Response

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the media before the session began, emphasized the need for a smooth, drama-free session, urging all parties to focus on parliamentary business rather than disruptions.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also responded to opposition demands, stating that proposals for debates are under government consideration and that insisting on immediate discussion can make proceedings difficult.

Opposition Concerns

Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi, argued that the government has avoided discussions on key issues such as electoral roll irregularities and rising air pollution.

“Parliament is the temple of democracy. All voices, from different perspectives, should be heard. But the government is not ready to discuss any issue,” Gandhi said.

She further claimed that frequent changes in voter lists are affecting lakhs of voters and raised concerns over potential vote manipulation.
