As many as 35 students from Siribeda PM Shree School hostel in Baipariguda block, Koraput district, were hospitalised after suffering severe stomach pain late Monday night.
Initially, a few hostel residents complained of abdominal pain following dinner. Soon after, most of the students began experiencing similar symptoms, creating panic inside the hostel.
Upon receiving the information, headmaster Kulamani Jena acted swiftly. He arranged three Bolero vehicles and rushed the affected students to Baipariguda Hospital for immediate treatment.
Meanwhile, medical teams from Baipariguda and Ramgiri reached the school to examine the remaining students and investigate the suspected food poisoning. Doctors are monitoring the condition of the hospitalised children and conducting tests to identify the cause.
Consequently, the incident has raised serious concerns about the quality of food served in the hostel. Parents and local residents expressed worry over the safety of children staying in school accommodations.
