Rahul Yadav, an 18-year-old Computer Science student from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, was found dead in his hostel room at a city-based private university late on November 30.

Infocity Police received the alert at 10:45 p.m. and rushed to the KP 7 AB hostel block. Officers opened the room, which was locked from the inside, in the presence of senior officials and under videography.

Police shifted Rahul’s body to KIMS Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Investigators registered a case of unnatural death under Infocity PS UD Case No. 153 dated December 1.

A scientific officer visited the scene and assisted the Investigating Officer in collecting evidence. Police seized Rahul’s mobile phone and laptop under a proper seizure list. Officials sealed the room and began questioning hostel inmates to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Commissioner of Police and senior officers inspected the location and reviewed the evidence. They also interacted with hostel students to gather background details. Rahul’s family, residents of Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, received the information and are travelling to Bhubaneswar.

Police will conduct the inquest and post-mortem after the family arrives. Meanwhile, law and order remain stable, as one platoon force and officers have been deployed near the hostel to maintain security.
