Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India remains committed to peace but will not compromise on national security, asserting that the world has witnessed how a “new India neither fears nor bows down to terrorism.” He made the remarks while addressing a special programme in Kurukshetra marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, Modi said it stands as a strong example of India’s resolve to protect its people and its borders. “We speak to the world about universal brotherhood, and we also secure our borders. We seek peace, but we do not compromise on security,” he said.

“Operation Sindoor is the biggest example of this. New India neither fears nor stops, and it does not bend before terrorism. Today’s India is moving forward with full strength, courage, and clarity,” the prime minister added.

‘A Confluence of India’s Heritage’

Modi also reflected on his earlier visit to Ayodhya the same day, describing the moment as a symbolic connection between India’s spiritual traditions.
“This morning, I was in Ayodhya, the city of the Ramayana, and now I am here in Kurukshetra, the city of the Gita. We are all paying homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his 350th martyrdom day,” he said, acknowledging the presence of saints and the Sikh Sangat, as reported by ANI.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Military Response

Operation Sindoor was launched in early May following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people lost their lives. India initiated the military operation in the early hours of May 7, targeting terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation concluded with a ceasefire on May 10.

The confrontation involved fighter aircraft, precision missiles, armed drones, and artillery exchanges, marking one of India’s most direct military responses in recent years.
