Dense fog and a sharp drop in temperature have disrupted everyday life in Lamtaput in Odisha’s Koraput district. Residents have been facing extremely cold conditions for several days as winter tightened its grip following the withdrawal of the monsoon.
For the past four days, the entire region has remained covered in a thick layer of fog, making movement difficult and reducing visibility on major routes. Drivers are struggling to navigate the roads safely, and many people feel unsafe walking outdoors due to the high risk of accidents.
Local businesses and roadside vendors have reported lower footfall as most residents prefer to stay indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary. To keep warm, community members are gathering around bonfires in different parts of the town.
Emergency Services Affected
Concerns are growing about the impact of the fog on emergency services. Ambulance movement on the ghati road has become slow and risky during peak fog hours. Community members shared that ambulances are often forced to crawl through low visibility, which may delay urgent medical care.
A local resident shared, “For the last five to six days, the cold has increased sharply. Dense fog is affecting vehicle movement, and many people feel anxious walking on the road.”
With the temperature remaining low and the fog showing no sign of lifting, Lamtaput residents are preparing for further disruptions as winter conditions continue to intensify.
