In a bid to safeguard consumer interests and ensure seamless access to essential cooking fuel, the Odisha government has issued strict directives to public oil companies operating within the state.

During a high-level meeting chaired by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, emphasis was placed on eliminating delays in LPG cylinder deliveries and maintaining robust supply chains.

Singh underscored that there should be “no compromise” on the timely delivery of gas cylinders to consumers, urging companies to prioritise stock availability and stability in distribution networks. He highlighted the need for sufficient LPG reserves across the state to prevent shortages, while also addressing consumer grievances promptly.

A key concern raised was the circulation of 5 KG cylinders lacking proper safety guarantees in the market. The Principal Secretary instructed officials to take immediate action on such complaints, including conducting regular inspections to curb black marketing and unauthorised filling stations. Furthermore, he directed the establishment of multiple supply sources for gas cylinders to enhance reliability and resilience in the supply chain.

The meeting also focused on resolving bottlenecks faced by consumers, oil marketing companies, and dealers to foster an uninterrupted flow of LPG. This collaborative approach aims to mitigate disruptions and ensure equitable access to cooking gas for all households in Odisha.

Prominent representatives from major oil companies attended the discussions, including Indian Oil Chief General Manager Naro Tundup, HPCL Deputy General Manager M. N. Srinivas, BPCL State Head Raj Kumar Singh, Chief Manager Pranali Meshram, IOCL Chief Manager KC Seth, and Additional Director Salauddin Khan.
