Congress candidate Ghasi Ram Majhi announced that he will contest three more elections despite his defeat in the Nuapada bypoll.
He said Abraham Lincoln lost nine elections before becoming President of the United States. Inspired by Lincoln’s persistence, Ghasi Ram declared that he will continue his political journey.
Ghasi Ram also levelled serious allegations against his party. He stated that Congress did not provide him with financial support during the bypoll campaign. He explained that elections required heavy expenditure and alleged that votes were bought. He admitted that the lack of funds weakened his campaign and contributed to his defeat.
Senior Congress leader and former minister Narasingha Mishra offered a sharp assessment after the Nuapada bypoll result. He said Odisha now needs another regional party. He explained that although he never supported regional parties earlier, the current political situation demands a new force.
Narasingha Mishra described the bypoll outcome as discouraging for Congress and painful for BJD. He predicted that the BJD will begin to break apart and eventually disappear. He also criticised Congress for poor election management. He agreed with Ghasi Ram’s allegations and said the party failed to organise the campaign effectively.
Narasingha Mishra concluded that in such circumstances, Congress must accept defeat. He emphasised that Ghasi Ram’s determination to fight again reflects the spirit of resilience.
