A cold wave has gripped Koraput district in southern Odisha, bringing a sharp dip in temperatures and disrupting normal life. Over the past few days, residents have been experiencing intense winter chills, especially in Laxmipur, where the cold has become increasingly biting.
Locals report that the early morning temperatures have dropped significantly, with many finding it difficult to step outdoors before sunrise.
“The chill has set in for the last couple of days. It feels pleasant for morning exercise, but the temperature has dropped a lot. I leave home around 4:30 a.m. and return by 7:00 a.m.,” said a local resident.
Narayanpatna Records Unusual Cold
Even Narayanpatna, which generally enjoys milder weather compared to Koraput, is witnessing an unusual cold spell this year. According to residents, continuous rainfall over the past few months may have contributed to the steep fall in temperature.
“This year feels different. The cold is stronger and might last until late February,” shared another local resident.
Cold Weather Impacts Daily Life and Business
The drop in temperature has also affected local businesses. A tea stall owner mentioned that footfall has decreased significantly due to the chilly mornings.
“People are not coming out much because of the cold. Business is slower than usual,” he said.
As temperatures continue to plunge across Koraput and surrounding areas, locals are bracing for a long and intense winter season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that cold conditions may persist for the next few weeks, especially during early mornings and late nights.
