In the wake of a disappointing weekend at the Brazilian Grand Prix, veteran driver Lewis Hamilton publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the Ferrari team following a strong rebuke from the team’s executive chairman, John Elkann.
Elkann voiced clear frustration after both Ferrari drivers failed to finish. He criticised what he viewed as a lack of focus and excessive chatter from the driver line-up, stating: “Brazil was a big disappointment… It’s important that our drivers focus on driving and talk less.”
Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc endured a weekend to forget. Hamilton withdrew mid-race due to car damage, while Leclerc was forced out early following a collision. The double retirement plunged Ferrari down to fourth in the constructors’ standings, and both drivers remain without a win this season.
Despite Elkann acknowledging that the mechanics and pit-stop crews have delivered strong efforts, he said the overall results still fall short of expectations. He noted that while the car has improved, the team still has “some big races remaining” and that they could yet contend for second place behind dominant leaders.
Shortly after Elkann’s comments, Hamilton shared an Instagram post that reflected a more positive tone:
“It wasn’t the race we wanted. It’s gutting, especially after some good progress, but we will move on. I back my team. I back myself. I will not give up. Not now, not then, not ever.”
By publicly backing the team, Hamilton appears to be embracing unity and accountability. His message signals resolve and commitment despite the critical remarks from above. The season may be turning into a demanding test of character, but Hamilton’s support suggests that the team remains focused on the path ahead.
As Ferrari gears up for the remaining races, the dual challenge will be to convert strong mechanics and car performance into consistent finishes — and ultimately, a victory. With Elkann’s expectations laid bare and Hamilton’s rallying cry issued, the spotlight is firmly on action, not words.
