The incident occurred during the Kartik Ekadashi festival, where overcrowding led to a deadly stampede, resulting in the deaths of 9 people and injuries to over 25 others.

Among the victims was Rangala Roopa, a B.Sc. Nursing student from Gudiapadar village in Odisha’s Ganjam district. She had travelled to the temple along with another woman from her village.

While Roopa succumbed to the injuries, her companion sustained serious wounds and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
