Anahat Singh delivered a career-defining performance at the 2025 Canadian Open by defeating world No. 7 Tinne Gilis in straight games.

She secured her spot in the semifinals with a 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 win on Tuesday in Toronto.

The 17-year-old from Delhi showcased remarkable composure and skill throughout the tense match. With this victory, she earned her first win over a Top-10 opponent and strengthened her reputation as one of India’s most promising squash talents. She now prepares to face England’s Georgina Kennedy in the semifinal on Wednesday.

After the match, Anahat expressed satisfaction with her performance. “I’m really happy with the way I’ve been playing this week,” she said. “I came in with the mentality to play my best squash, and it paid off.”

She credited her recent training sessions with former world champion Greg Gaultier during the US Open for helping her regain form. Although she struggled the previous week, she stayed focused and worked hard to improve.

Earlier in the tournament, Anahat defeated world No. 20 Melissa Alves of France in the quarterfinals of the USD 96,250 PSA Silver event. Her stellar season continues after winning two major PSA Awards — Women’s Challenger Player of the Season and a shared Women’s Young Player of the Season title with Egypt’s Amina Orfi.

The Canadian Women’s Open semifinals begin on Thursday, October 30 (IST) at 3:00 a.m. IST. Anahat’s match starts at 4:30 a.m. IST and will stream live on SQUASHTV.
