Srinagar: A militant affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed on Wednesday in an encounter between security forces and militants at Wagoora in Naugam area of Srinagar.
Police have identified the deceased militant as Uzair Ashraf Dar. He was a resident of Shopian.
They also recovered one pistol, one ammunition magazine, six rounds, and two grenades.
“Srinagar Encounter Update: 01 unidentified terrorist killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow (sic),” tweeted Kashmir Zone Police.
The encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Wagoora late on Tuesday night.
According to sources, a joint team of police and CRPF had launched a search operation in Wagoora area. They opened fire on the security personnel when they surrounded the suspect.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered by the police and an investigation has been initiated.
