Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has issued a stern warning to traders attempting to exploit the cyclone situation through hoarding and black marketing.

He stated that those taking advantage of the crisis will face strict action and may lose their right to do business.

Addressing the public, the Minister urged citizens not to panic or stockpile daily essentials unnecessarily. He reassured that the state government has sufficient supplies and that the expected rainfall will last only two days. “It’s a matter of 48 hours. Please don’t rush to buy and hoard items,” he appealed.

In a separate review meeting chaired by the Minister, departments discussed pre- and post-cyclone preparedness. The Electronics and IT Department, designated as the nodal agency for telecom services, was instructed to ensure uninterrupted mobile and internet connectivity in the cyclone-affected southern and southwestern districts.

District Collectors were asked to arrange alternative power sources for mobile towers to maintain communication services during the cyclone. Additionally, telecom operators across Odisha were requested to take necessary steps to guarantee continuous service before and after the storm.

The Minister emphasized that maintaining communication is vital during emergencies and urged all stakeholders to act swiftly and responsibly. The government continues to monitor the situation and coordinate efforts to minimize disruption and ensure public safety.
