A youth lost his life after getting caught in an electric wire trap set for boar hunting near Aligaon School in Koraput’s Semiliguda block.
The incident occurred late Friday night on a nearby hill.
The victim, Sanjay Bada Nayak from Ghataguda village, was a second-year student at Dudhari College. He reportedly came into contact with a live wire laid to trap wild boars and died instantly at the scene.
Soon after receiving the report, Semiliguda police launched an investigation. Locals demanded the arrest of those responsible for installing the trap. Authorities sent the body to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Sunabeda SDPO Sumitra Jena confirmed that police have begun probing the origin of the trap. The incident stirred tension in the area, especially after villagers alleged a romantic link between the deceased and a young woman from Aligaon. According to reports, the two were heading toward the forest when the accident occurred.
In response, police began questioning two individuals from the village believed to be connected to the case. Officials assured that they would take strict action against anyone found guilty.
Additionally, forest and electricity department officials stated that they regularly conduct joint operations in regions like Laxmipur, Bandhugaon, Narayanpatna, Nandapur, Patangi, Paduwa, and Lamtaput to seize illegal wires used for boar hunting.
