Ahead of the Nuapada by-election, the Excise Department launched a high-intensity search operation across the district.
Officials seized illegal liquor and vehicles valued at ₹66.72 lakh.
On October 23, excise officers confiscated 146 liters of hand-distilled liquor, 400 liters of country-made liquor, and 2,700 kg of mahua flower. The estimated value of this haul stands at ₹8.64 lakh. The department also seized 69 liters of beer, 38 liters of foreign liquor, 4,000 liters of hand-distilled liquor, 1,053 liters of country-made liquor, 4 kg of cannabis, and 94,250 kg of mahua flower. These items collectively amount to ₹66.72 lakh.
In addition to the liquor seizure, four motorcycles and one four-wheeler were impounded. So far, 126 excise cases have been registered, and 77 individuals have been arrested in connection with illegal liquor activities.
The illegal liquor seizure in Nuapada has prompted district authorities to tighten enforcement. The Collector instructed all surveillance teams to ensure complete shutdown of illicit liquor operations during the election period.
Excise Superintendent confirmed the department’s commitment to maintaining law and order. The crackdown aims to prevent the influence of illegal substances on the electoral process and ensure a fair vote.
