Glenn Phillips pulled off a spectacular one-handed diving catch to dismiss Virat Kohli for a mere 11 runs during his milestone 300th ODI match.
The contest between India and New Zealand took place in Dubai, with Phillips’ stunning fielding effort marking a standout moment of the game.
Kohli, who managed to score 11 runs off 14 balls, including two boundaries, fell victim to Phillips’ brilliance on the fourth delivery of the seventh over, bowled by Matt Henry. The Indian cricket team’s management and fans had high hopes for Kohli, but his brief innings left them wanting more.
Prior to Kohli’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were also sent back to the pavilion. Gill was trapped LBW by Henry for just 2 runs in the third over, while Sharma, on the verge of becoming the seventh Indian to score 1,000 ODI runs against New Zealand, was caught by Will Young after scoring 15 runs from 17 balls.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to field first, making one change to their playing XI by replacing Devon Conway with Daryl Mitchell. India also made a single change to their lineup for the Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
