Odisha marked the 66th Police Martyrs’ Day this morning at the State Police Headquarters in Bhubaneswar, paying tribute to officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

To begin the ceremony, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania arrived as the chief guest and laid floral tributes before the memorial. He praised the courage and dedication of police personnel who upheld national security with their lives. Moreover, he extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, who attended the event by special invitation.

As part of the tribute, the police conducted a formal arms salute and observed a two-minute silence. DGP Khurania highlighted that police casualties have significantly declined over the years, thanks to enhanced security protocols and the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies.

Throughout the event, senior officers from various wings of Odisha Police—including Crime Branch, Vigilance, Anti-Naxal Operations, and Modernization—stood in solidarity. Notable attendees included Vinay Tosh Mishra, Sanjeeb Panda, SK Priyadarshi, and Arun Bothra.

This year, 191 personnel from central and state police forces across India laid down their lives. Odisha mourned the loss of Constable Lakshman Majhi from Rayagada and Constable Loknath Sabar from Cuttack. The department honored their families during the ceremony.

In his address, DGP Khurania emphasized Odisha Police’s pivotal role in restoring peace in Naxal-affected regions. He commended the force’s unwavering commitment to public service and pledged continued efforts to uphold safety and stability across the state.
