In a sharp escalation of border hostilities, Taliban-led Afghan forces launched a series of retaliatory strikes late Saturday, capturing multiple Pakistani Army outposts along the Durand Line.

The offensive, concentrated in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Helmand provinces, reportedly followed a Pakistani airstrike near Kabul earlier this week.

According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence, the Taliban seized strategic positions and destroyed Pakistani military infrastructure, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 Pakistani soldiers.

The clashes also spread to Aryub Zazi in Paktia province and surrounding districts.

Pakistan’s security forces responded with what they termed “full force,” accusing the Taliban of initiating unprovoked firing. However, Afghan officials framed the operation as a defensive response to airspace violations.

The conflict has drawn international concern, with Qatar urging both nations to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic dialogue.

Analysts warn that this marks one of the most intense escalations since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, underscoring the fragile nature of Afghanistan-Pakistan relations.
