Former US President Donald Trump has once again expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, calling himself the “Peace President.” Despite his optimism, Trump said he doubts the Nobel Committee will award him the honor this year.
The comments came shortly after Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a first-phase ceasefire deal in Gaza, following days of indirect negotiations in Egypt.
Trump on His Chances for the Nobel Prize
When asked by reporters about his prospects, Trump said,
“I have no idea. Marco (Secretary of State Marco Rubio) would tell you we settled seven wars. We’re close to settling an eighth. I think we’ll end up settling the Russia situation too.”
Trump claimed that no other president in history had achieved so many peace settlements. However, he added that the Nobel Committee might “find a reason not to give it to me.”
White House Backs Trump’s Peace Claims
Soon after, the White House shared an image of Trump on social media with the caption: “The Peace President.”
Officials highlighted his efforts to de-escalate multiple global conflicts, including those involving Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and Hamas.
Trump’s Long Quest for the Nobel Prize
Trump has long criticized the Nobel Committee for not recognizing his diplomatic efforts.
He often compares his record to that of former President Barack Obama, who received the Nobel Peace Prize during his first year in office.
Supporters of Trump have continued to nominate him for the award, even after the official deadline ended on January 31.
Despite several nominations during his first term, Trump has never won.
Pakistan Among Nations That Nominated Trump
On June 20, Pakistan announced that it had nominated Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize for his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the India-Pakistan crisis earlier this year.
However, India denied the US played any role in the ceasefire.
New Delhi clarified that peace talks resumed only after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart and requested an immediate truce.
Trump’s “Peace President” Legacy
As the Nobel Peace Prize announcement draws near, Trump’s campaign continues to promote his image as a global peace broker. While his critics remain unconvinced, Trump’s supporters insist that his diplomatic outreach deserves global recognition.
