Odisha CM Pushes for World-Class Upgrades of Maa Samaleswari Temple

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan today to assess the ongoing development works at the revered Maa Samaleswari Temple in Sambalpur.

The ambitious project, spanning 82 acres and backed by an investment of Rs 316 crore, is being executed in two phases. It aims to transform the site into a premier destination for devotees, pilgrims, and tourists.

In the first phase, key developments include the construction of a temple corridor, the enhancement of Gopaljiu Math, and a dedicated lamp house. There are ample parking facilities, riverfront development, and additional amenities tailored for visitors and pilgrims. These upgrades aim to improve accessibility and the overall spiritual experience at the site.

The second phase will focus on further expansions, such as the construction of Bhakta Niwas (pilgrim accommodations), a scenic lake zone, shop complexes, a food park, enhanced parking areas, and improved entry pathways to accommodate growing footfall.

Maa Samaleswari Peeth, one of Odisha’s most prominent Shakti Peeths, attracts a steady stream of devotees, pilgrims, and tourists throughout the year. Sambalpur district itself holds a prominent place on Odisha’s tourism map, drawing visitors from across India and abroad. Recognising this, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to elevate all development works to world-class standards. This is to meet international expectations.

During the meeting, CM Majhi specifically advised making the upcoming Bhakta Niwas multi-storied to provide accommodation for a larger number of devotees. He also stressed the importance of ensuring proper rehabilitation for residents displaced by the project, underscoring a humane approach to development.

Works and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary of the Works Department Sanjay Kumar Singh, the CM’s Principal Secretary Sashwat Mishra, along with senior officials and engineers from the Works Department were in attendance.

This initiative aligns with the state government’s broader vision to preserve Odisha’s rich cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism and infrastructure growth.
