The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has launched a strategic push to retain control over the Deputy Chairperson post in Rayagada Municipality.
Party supremo Naveen Patnaik issued a stern directive to counter the no-confidence motion against the current Deputy Chairperson.
Patnaik sent a letter instructing all party councillors to vote against the motion. He warned of disciplinary action if any councillor defies the party whip. Senior leader Jagannath Saraka was tasked with delivering notices to ensure compliance.
The crisis deepened as 19 elected BJD councillors reportedly went into hiding. Sources close to Bhaskar Rao confirmed his support for the absentees, raising speculation about internal dissent. The sudden disappearance of these councillors has sparked concern within the party ranks.
The no-confidence vote is scheduled for tomorrow. BJD leadership fears that internal rebellion could jeopardize their hold on the Deputy Chairperson post. Naveen Patnaik’s intervention reflects the urgency and gravity of the situation.
The Rayagada Municipality Deputy Chairperson post has become a flashpoint for factionalism within BJD. The party’s top brass is working to prevent a political setback that could ripple across the region.
