The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Thursday launched its statewide ‘Gandhi Path Yatra’ from the state’s southern border at Motu in Malkangiri district.

The march, led by PCC President Bhakta Charan Das, is aimed at protesting against the alleged deterioration of law and order, lack of development, and rising crimes against women in the state.

Upon his arrival at Motu, Das was accorded a warm welcome by party workers and local residents. He was taken to Mughi Point, Odisha’s last border outpost, where he, along with Odisha Youth Congress Working President Krushna Chandra Mohanty, inaugurated the yatra.

The programme began with floral tributes at a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Mughi Point, followed by a public meeting where Das launched a scathing attack on the state government, accusing it of failing to ensure women’s safety and neglecting development.

Das announced that the Congress yatra would cover all 314 blocks across Odisha, spreading Gandhi’s message while highlighting the government’s shortcomings.

The launch event witnessed the presence of several senior Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Ramakanta Kadam, MLAs Santosh Singh Saluja, Bhujbal Majhi, Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khil, District Congress President G. Srinivas Rao, former district president Gobinda Patra, and Youth Congress leader Isak Khosla. More than 3,000 party workers participated in the event.

Das reiterated that the Congress’ “Gandhi Path Yatra” would continue across the state as a people’s movement against injustice, lawlessness, and government apathy.
