Banks to Remain Closed for 21 Days in October Across India, Check Full List

As India gears up for a vibrant festive season, banks across the country are set to remain closed for a total of 21 days in October 2025, including weekends and regional holidays.


The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a comprehensive holiday calendar, urging citizens to plan their banking activities accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

Major festivals such as Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Bhai Dooj, and Gandhi Jayanti contribute to the extended closures. In addition to these, the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays further reduce working days for banks.

🏦 Key Dates to Note:

  • October 1: Dussehra, Ayudha Puja, Durga Puja (West Bengal, Karnataka, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, UP)
  • October 2: Gandhi Jayanti (Nationwide)
  • October 3–4: Durga Puja (Sikkim)
  • October 6: Lakshmi Puja (Tripura, West Bengal)
  • October 7: Valmiki Jayanti, Kumar Purnima (Karnataka, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh)
  • October 10: Karva Chauth (Himachal Pradesh)
  • October 18: Kati Bihu (Assam)
  • October 20: Banks will close in over 20 states for Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja.

  • October 21: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha will observe holidays for Diwali Amavasya, Lakshmi Puja, and Govardhan Puja.

  • October 22: States such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh will celebrate Diwali New Year and Bali Pratipada.

  • October 23: Banks will remain shut in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal for Bhai Dooj, Chitragupta Puja, and related festivities.

  • October 27: Chhath Puja (evening arghya) will be observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

  • October 28: Chhath Puja (morning arghya) will bring another holiday in Bihar and Jharkhand.

  • October 31: Gujarat will observe a holiday for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.

  • October 11: Second Saturday

  • October 25: Fourth Saturday

  • All Sundays: Weekly closure

Citizens are advised to check their local bank holiday list and complete essential transactions in advance. Digital banking services will remain operational during the holidays.
