A truck veered off the Bhasma-Remanda Bridge and plunged into the IB River in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Monday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was moving at high speed when the driver lost control, causing it to fall into the river.
The driver is believed to have jumped from the vehicle moments before it hit the water. As of now, there is no official confirmation on the driver’s condition or whether the truck was carrying cargo.
Local police and fire department personnel from Bhasma rushed to the scene and have initiated recovery operations. The truck was seen floating in the river, and efforts are underway to retrieve it.
This incident follows a similar accident in August 2025, when a coal-laden trailer was swept away by floodwaters in the Sahajbahal area under Bargaon police limits. That vehicle overturned while attempting to cross a submerged bridge.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during monsoon conditions when water levels and currents pose serious risks.
