During the Odisha Assembly session, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj revealed that the previous state government had spent a total of Rs 261 crore 63 lakh 22 thousand under the ‘Nua-O’ scheme, aimed at youth empowerment and skill development.
The minister clarified that while the expenditure was substantial, any specific allegations regarding misuse or irregularities would be investigated thoroughly. The statement was made in response to queries raised by members of the Assembly regarding transparency and accountability in the scheme’s implementation.

The ‘Nua-O’ initiative was launched to support students and young professionals with financial aid, training, and career opportunities. However, the large-scale spending has now drawn scrutiny from opposition leaders and civil society groups.
