In a remarkable display of community spirit and environmental commitment, Odisha has exceeded its ambitious goal of planting 75 lakh saplings in a single day under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ initiative.

By 1:40 PM today, the state had planted an impressive 80,38,615 seedlings across 30 districts and 30,025 sites, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday with a green tribute to Mother Earth.

Launched as a sequel to last year’s successful campaign, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’—meaning “One Tree in the Name of Mother”—aims to honor motherhood while combating climate change through mass afforestation. The drive, part of the broader ‘Seva Parv’ from September 17 to October 2, 2025, mobilised government departments, volunteers, and local communities statewide.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hailed the effort as a “people’s movement,” stating, “This reflects our commitment to honour Mother Earth and ensure a greener future for Odisha on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of PM Narendra Modi. Crossing the 80-lakh mark is a proud milestone, achieved through the dedication of our people and officials.”

District-wise data from the real-time dashboard highlights significant regional variations in participation. Koraput district led the charge with 8,16,784 saplings planted, showcasing strong local engagement in this tribal-dominated area. In contrast, Debagarh (also known as Deogarh) recorded the lowest at 86,987 saplings, possibly due to logistical challenges or lower population density. Other top performers include Kendujhar (Keonjhar) with 6,68,096 and Sundergarh with 5,89,833, while the bar graph visualisation underscores the statewide push toward sustainability.

As the day progresses, officials expect the total to rise even higher, symbolising Odisha’s commitment to promoting ecological balance. Residents and volunteers continue to participate enthusiastically, turning PM Modi’s birthday into a statewide celebration of nature.
